Bupa partners with MoreGoodDays to expand access to gold-standard chronic back pain care
Announcing our new partnership
We’re excited to share that Bupa is partnering with MoreGoodDays to expand access to evidence-based care for chronic back pain. Through this partnership, eligible* Bupa members can access our back pain recovery program at no extra cost — designed to help them manage pain, build confidence, and avoid unnecessary surgery.
In an Australian first, eligible* members can join an eight-week, clinician-supported digital program developed by experts in neuroscience, physiotherapy and psychology. The program focuses on retraining how the brain and body process pain, helping participants move with confidence and return to the things they enjoy.
“I know firsthand the impact of chronic pain after injuring my back in a car accident when I was 21. It’s not just the financial cost that we think about here at Bupa, but also the impact on the individual and family and friends as well. We’re excited to help customers access this amazing program and improve their health outcomes.” said Katie Sherlock, General Manager of Health Programs
“Bupa is the first health fund in Australia to partner with us to make evidence-based pain care more accessible to Australians,” said Neala Fulia, CEO and Founder of MoreGoodDays.
The MoreGoodDays program is grounded in the understanding that persistent pain is influenced by biological, psychological and social factors. It addresses unhelpful pain beliefs and movement avoidance that can keep people trapped in a cycle of pain, fear and reduced activity. The program is an eight-week journey that combines short digital lessons with personalised consultations with physiotherapists and psychologists, providing practical tools for movement, confidence and pain management.
Back pain affects one in six Australians [1] and is the second most common reason Australians visit their GP [2]. Around 70 per cent of people living with chronic back pain experience difficulty performing daily activities such as work, exercise and sleep [3]. Yet only around 10 per cent of people with chronic pain access best-practice multidisciplinary care [4], leaving significant unmet need for earlier, evidence-based intervention.
Back-pain surgery costs the health system around $1.3 billion each year in private hospital care [5]. Spinal-fusion surgery rates have more than tripled since 2001 [6], yet research shows they offer no greater long-term benefit than non-surgical care and can carry significant risks [7].
Together, Bupa and MoreGoodDays are making it easier for Australians to recover from pain and return to the activities that matter most.
